Rotary Kiln Speed Transmitter

Measuring and controlling the temperature profile in the older rotary kilns is desirable for optimized operation. In addition to "unravelling" the temperature signal from the kiln, the Rotary Kiln De-Multiplexer has several internal registers which are accessible via the serial interface providing a range of alternate functions which are generally not used. One such function is the time in seconds per kiln revolution.
An existing product, the Programmable Signal Transmitter, was modified to access this kiln rotation time using RS485 to produce an analogue output proportional to kiln speed. Typical rotation times are from 60 to 300 seconds - that is around 0.2 to 1 rpm. The new product, now called the Rotary Kiln Speed Transmitter, produces a 4 to 20 mA output proportional to kiln speed. At 0.2 rpm (300 seconds per revolution) the output is 4 mA and at 1 rpm (300 seconds) the output is 20 mA.
The Rotary Kiln Speed Transmitter is programmable so that the output range can be set up for any kiln speed. There are high and low speed alarms as well as a communications alarm. LEDs indicate the state of the communications and the speed alarms with relay outputs which can be used to signal faults to other systems or annunciators.
Specifications:
  • Input - RS485 register connection to Kiln Temperature De-Multiplexer (could be any Danntech product with Remote Magic Interface)
  • Analogue output - 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 20 mA, 0 to 5 V, 0 to 10 V, ±5 V and ±10 V (factory configured).
  • User friendly software calibration, output scaling, relay and LED operation, configurable zero, full-scale adjustment.
  • Maximum output load resistance 470 Ω for current outputs.
  • Minimum output load resistance 1 kΩ for voltage outputs.
  • 12 bit output resolution.
  • Linearity better than 0.5% of the range.
  • Output response - updated every kiln revolution unless a fault is detected.
  • LEDs to indicate power in, a fault condition and communications activity.

Two signal relay outputs (24 V at 1 A) with configurable operating sense - normally open or normally closed.
